Expanding portfolio of wide format aspect ratio TFT displays

Hitachi Europe Ltd, Display Products Group (DPG) continues to enhance and develop its range of wide aspect ratio LCD TFT displays. Traditional TFT technology and the continued migration of Hitachi’s impressive IPS-Pro (in-plane-switching) technology to industrial and commercial displays enables Hitachi to offer an expanding portfolio of wide format TFT display solutions. The family line up now includes display sizes of 7, 8, 9, 12, 15.4 and 17 inches and supports WVGA and WXGA resolutions. Hitachi’s IPS-Pro technology now provides the industrial market with medium size displays that benefit from exceptionally wide viewing angles, excellent colour saturation and reproduction.

“We see the wide format display modules as a future growth area for the industrial sector. These widescreen LCD modules place Hitachi firmly at the forefront of this developing market. With six display sizes and wide VGA and XGA resolutions our strategy is to continue to offer customers market leading optical performance, long term availability and continuity of supply,” comments Mark Stephenson, Product Manager for Hitachi Display Products Group. “Wide format TFT displays will find use in many front panel, instrumentation and process control systems and designs. The mechanical footprint of the wide format TFT display is ideally suited for human machine interface applications particularly medical and industrial monitoring. Information, data and graphics can be concisely represented and displayed providing an enhanced user interface.”

Other application areas suitable for Hitachi’s wide format TFT display modules include personal entertainment, gaming, building management, industrial PC, marine and automotive applications.

The Hitachi wide format TFT product range features the following display modules:

7.0” TX18D57VM2BAA
Offering a wide operating temperature range of -30 degree C to +80 degree C this WVGA 800 x 480 resolution display also delivers a contrast ratio of 450:1 and a brightness of 600cd/m².

8.0” TX20D17VM2BAA
A brightness specification of 600cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 200:1 are features of the 8-inch WVGA 800 x 480 display module.

9.0” TX23D12VM0CAA (AS-IPS)
Featuring Hitachi’s Advanced Super In-Plane-Switching (AS-IPS) technology this 9-inch WVGA module offers viewing angles of up to 176 degrees in any direction. Typical performance figures for the 800 x 480 resolution display include a brightness of 300cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 400:1.

12.0” TX31D55VM2BAA
With an operating temperature of -20 degree C to +70 degree C the WVGA 800 x 480 display delivers a typical contrast ratio of 350:1 and NTSC colour saturation of 60% together with brightness of 350cd/m².

12.0” TX31D58VM0CAA (IPS-Pro)
IPS-Pro, the latest evolution of Hitachi’s In-Plane-Switching technology, enables a stable colour image from any viewing angle. Up to 16.7M colours are supported via a 24-bit RGB data interface. Ideally suited for use in public information displays, medical diagnostic systems and monitoring applications the WVGA 800 x 480 display provides an excellent contrast ratio of 500:1 and brightness of 300cd/m².

15.4” TX39D55VM1BAA
Operating over a -20 degree C to +70 degree C temperature range, this WXGA 1280 x 800 display features 4 lamp CCFL backlighting and offers high quality optical performance including a contrast ratio of 500:1, brightness of 450cd/m² and a typical NTSC colour saturation of 72%.

17” TX43D55VM0BAA (IPS-Pro)
Suitable for multi-viewer applications which demand high optical performance the WXGA 1280 x 768 display has an exceptional contrast ratio, excellent colour saturation and brightness of 350cd/m². Hitachi’s IPS-Pro technology enables the black level of the display combined with improved transmittance to provide a contrast ratio of up to 800:1. This characteristic means that a high brightness can be achieved without increasing the power consumption of the backlight.

Future enhancements to Hitachi’s wide format TFT display modules will include the implementation of high brightness, long-life LED backlights. All wide format TFT display products are available immediately via Hitachi Display Product Group’s distribution partners across Europe.
